I Attended a Funeral Today

I Attended a Funeral Today

I attended a funeral today in a hurry

I drove a little too fast on the freeway

It was held right in the heartland of Malaysia

Amongst the fringes of civilisation and tall angsana trees

When I got there

The deceased was already lowered six feet under

And fresh soil was piled upon the grave

A newly erected tombstone stood at a slanting angle

Prayers were murmured around

And I said mine

This got me thinking

We came into this world the same way

And we leave

From dust to dust

And the circle of people surrounding our graves

Those that impacted our lives

Will they mourn for us

Will I be forgettable someday

How will people remember me by

In the span of my short life

Will u write me an eulogy

Will the skies grey and darken

As rain poured unto my grave

And hid those mourners with a silent tear streaming down

Tears and rain

Rain and tears

And thunder too

Death is imminently certain

It doesn't seem so morbid after all
